* Den Haag, 13 XII 1920 + Airolo, 15 IX 1993. Musicologo olandese. Studi di vcl. e teoria ai cons. di Amsterdam e di Den Haag e di musicologia all'Univ. di Amsterdam e alla Sorbonne di Parigi. Prof. alla scuola di mus. di Bussum (1951-53) e al cons. di Amsterdam, lavorò come assistente (1951-55) presso la bibl. pubbl. e la Toonkunst-Bibliotheek di Amsterdam. Dal 1956 al 1968 diresse queste due bibl. e prima di succedere a Bernet Kempers quale prof. ordinario di musicologia presso l'Univ. di Amsterdam, fu prof. straordinario presso l'Univ. di Leiden (1965-68). Fu inoltre prof. ospite presso molte Univ. europee e americane. Dal 1985 risiedette nel Cantone Ticino.
